With my initial look at dragons, I decided to focus on the head, as this to me defines whether the dragon looks like it is evil or not.
I then moved on to adding fire to another concept of a dragon head. I feel as if this did not work on the paper concept idea, but would come to life in the actual movie.
Again another vital point to a dragon is the wings, I looked at many resources to see wings other people had desgined. Many of the designs were very similar with only more focused details seperating them.
My first dragon concept. Front on view, not successful with what I wanted to portray as the limbs did not seem to connect with the body.
I then went on to do a second front view of another dragon concept. This turned out to be better than my other concept, but still there was something lacking which at that point I could not define. I carried on drawing up more concepts to work this out.
This concept I believe looked quite nice, the problem was that it was too caricatured, which would not really fit into my movie concept.
One of my later concepts for the dragon I wanted. This to me is much more successful as it could essentially be based on real life the limbs look as if they belong there. As well as this looking much more sinister, still these appeared to be to conventional and wanted something different.
This was what I wanted, something that was different but worked, I extended the neck of the dragon which worked.
My final dragon with 3/4 perspective. I was inspired to do this looking through deviant art and seeing the vast amounts of dragons being created. This changes is derived from all of mt concepts being put together.
